Last year, when on my Kenya Safari I spent a wonderful hour or so beside a small water hole watching a group of hippos bathing, lazing and generally just playing about.

It was an exciting and unique experience and I felt really priviledged being there watching them.

There was a brief moment when they looked up and saw us and began swimming over to us when I really began to worry about how fast I could run if called to!! But they seemed to find us pretty uninteresting and carried on with what they were doing.

As I say, I spent 6 days on the Masai Mara last November and it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I really urge you to go and experience this unique country.

In April and May the migrants move into the Western Corridor.

Some of the best views can be seen from the top of Mwamveni Hill overlooking the Mbalageti River.

From January until March several hundred thousand wildebeest calves will be born on the Serengeti.

It sounds a bit morbid but if you travel between those dates your visit will coincide with the calving when the hyenas, jackals and other predators are at their most deadly.

From late November the massed animals begin their retreat south following the rains through the Serengeti.

The most spectacular way to see the massive scale of the migration is by balloon safari.

What an amazing sight that must be.
