A Little Sound Taster…

Kenya Safaris

As I mentioned in an earlier post I have just returned from a visit (courtesy of Virgin Holidays) to Kenya and the Masai Mara staying at the Sorova Masai Lodge. During my stay I enjoyed 5 game drives and took the opportunity to take stacks of pictures, video footage and recorded a lot of sound files. Over the coming weeks I’m going to put together a whole sound show of my time in Kenya but to give you a little taster here’s a recording I made whilst on a game drive and its’ our guide and driver, Joram, telling us about lions after we had just come across a family of lions. Whilst he’s talking we were parked right next to them.

You’ll hear a few cameras whirring and a bit of talk from some of the other 6 occupants of the LandRover but you’ll get an idea of what Joram is telling us.

I was watching the latest episode of Ewen McGregor’s documentary “The Long Way Down” last night which is the episode where they reached Kenya.

It follows Ewan and his pal Charlie as they drive down the length of Kenya and shows the problems they faced with the roads and their motorbikes.

But they also stopped and visited a primary school out in the bush which was almost identical to the school that we visited two weeks ago. It really took me back and made me realise what a great priviledge it was to be able to visit the school and to help in just a very small way. As I mentioned yesterday I’ll be editing the video footage I took at the school and posting it here as soon as possible.

They also then visited a lodge overnight where they were lucky to see a family of elephants drinking at the waterhole. It was a great programme and if you are thining of taking your first Kenya safari I would recommend trying to get a copy.

I’ve finally added the last of the photographs I took last week when I was staying at the Sarova Masai Lodge on the Masai Mara.

I’m still working on creating the videos as my video camera decided to give up the ghost when I returned and I now have 4 hours worth of video cassette that I cant’ actually edit at present. So I’m searching eBay for a replacement and as soon as I have a new camera I’ll upload them here and to the main Kenya Holidays website.

You can see the full Kenya Safari photographs here.

Masai SafariMasai Safari

I’ve just returned from the Masai Mara courtesy of Virgin Holidays. It was part of a trip organised by them to allow a few agents to see the facilities at the Sarova Mara Camp, to enjoy a series of Game Drives and to participate in painting a new dormitory at the local Masai school.

I had an absolutely wonderful time and recorded a lot of video and audio files as well as taking a lot of photographs.

I’m just sorting through everything and I’ll be putting together a series of videos showing the wildlife, the Game Drives and also our experiences at the school. Plus I’ll be putting together the Audio/sound files to create a Kenya Podcast.

I’m also adding the photographs into a slideshow. I’ve put some of them up but there is a whole lot more to come.

However, to whet your appetite here’s a link to the first few:
