Most people who travel to Kenya to enjoy a safari usually spend a day and night in Nairobi before setting out on safari. I did myself and to be honest didnt’ do much other than having a short walk around the area that the hotel was situated in. When really I could have done so much more.

I read a fascinating article in the AsiaOne website the other day that was packed with ideas for anyone visiting Nairobi even for a short time.

I hope that by re-printing the article here it might give you some ideas for your one visit to Nairobi.

One of the visits it suggests is to Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage. We have booked a number of clients on this excursion and they have all said how much they enjoyed it. But take a look at the article and see just waht you can do in Nairobi…

There was an excellent article in the Telegraph on the 3rd of November entitled:
“Kenya Safari - So Much Better Than Disney” which essentially suggested that children would benefit from actually being able to actually see the animals in real life that they may only have ever have seen on the Disney or the Discovery Channel.

It was an excellent article and here’s a part of it (with credit to the Telegraph), that will go you a feel for what they were trying to suggest:

How about this:-

Why not take the Obama Roots Tour?

It consists of 9 night itinerary commencing in Nairobi where there is time to enjoy the unique giraffe centre or Karen Blixen’s house. Lake Nakuru is full of pink flamingoes and rhinos also live in the park. In the magical Kakamega visitors enjoy walks in the forest. At Kogelo see the area that is home to Obama’s family. Visits can be made to a local school and community projects

Take a boat transfer to Ndere Island for a special overnight stay. The Mara is a highlight of the trip with guaranteed wildlife sightings. Lucky game-watchers will see leopard, cheetah, hippos and more. The birdlife is amazing too.

There’s a choice of 3 tours starting from £1883.

Please give us a call on Freephone 0808 1089 100 for more details.

I’m just finishing editing the video and audio files I recorded on the Masai Mara.

I recorded a lot of video footage and audio clips and have been working hard over the last few days sorting them out.

I hope to have the first of the up over the next week which hopefully will help anybody thinking of taking Kenya safari holidays decide if its’ the sort of trip they want to make. I have to say just listening to the audio again brought it all back.

Here’s a taster of what’s to come. Its’ our guide, Joram, talking about the “big cats”. Joram is a lovely man with a wonderful voice which I think you will enjoy listening to:

Last year, when on my Kenya Safari I spent a wonderful hour or so beside a small water hole watching a group of hippos bathing, lazing and generally just playing about.

It was an exciting and unique experience and I felt really priviledged being there watching them.

There was a brief moment when they looked up and saw us and began swimming over to us when I really began to worry about how fast I could run if called to!! But they seemed to find us pretty uninteresting and carried on with what they were doing.

Here’s a great bit of footage from the BBC’s “Big Cat Diary” featuring these wonderful creatures:-

I hope your watching the BBC’s fabulous “Big Cat Week ” that comes “live” each evening from Kenya’s Masai Mara.

As you will know if you’ve been following this blog I was there last November, courtesy of Virgin Holidays, taking video and photographs for the main Kenya Holidays 4u website.

If you havent’ been watching this fantastic series then I really urge you to start watching itv from today. The camera work is amazing and the contributions from the presenters, Kate Silverton and Simon King make each program exciting and informative. Added to this they have contributions from a Masai game guide, Jackson, who adds his knowledge of someone actually working on a day to day basis.

As I say, I spent 6 days on the Masai Mara last November and it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I really urge you to go and experience this unique country.

Mbalageti Serengeti SafariYesterday I mentioned the Mbalageti Serengeti, in Tanzania. Well, last saturday it was recommended by The Guardian newspaper as one of the ‘5 Best Migration Safaris‘.

Located off the beaten track in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti National Park, lying on top of the Mwaveni Hill, the Mbalageti Serengeti is one of the most exclusive safari living experiences. A stunning oasis in the wild for the discerning traveller, a place to enjoy comfort incorporated with nature and the best of Tanzanian hospitality.

On Mwamveni Hill, overlooking the Serengeti plains and the Mbalageti River it a stunning oasis in the wild for the discerning traveller, a place to enjoy comfort incorporated with nature and the best of Tanzanian hospitality.

We can provide a tailor-made itinerary including Mbalageti Serengeti. If you would like more information please call either Barbara or myself, Colin, on Freephone 0808 1089 100
